Flowering most heavily over Winter, and fruiting in Summer, Puriri trees are evergreen, and a favourite of the Puriri moth, who makes the tree its home by tunneling into the wood. Boiled Puriri leaves were used by Maori to bathe sprains and muscle aches. The flowers range from bright pink, to dark red, to pale rose pink, to white.
