Wreaths have been used to adorn homes, and worn as headdresses since ancient times. Romans hung them on their doors as a sign of status or victory; and women wore them to special occasions such as weddings. The laurel wreath was worn by victors of sporting events in ancient Greece.
Later adopted by the Christian faith, wreaths were hung on the front door or a window, as an invitation to the spirit of Christmas to enter the home and bring good luck, showing to all that the Christmas spirit dwelt within.
My little sterling silver Kotare (NZ Sacred Kingfisher) dives down with wings out stretched into a circle of native New Zealand plants -Silver ferns, Kawakawa leaves and Pikopiko (baby fern shoots). A solid 9k gold `berry' and sterling silver star add to the magic on the wreath.
Soldered to a sterling silver ring measuring roughly 2cm in diameter.
*Available as a pendant only to attach to your own chain, or to hang as a gorgeous little Christmas ornament. *
